Najat Omar arrived in Australia in April 2019. She is an Ethiopian refugee who arrived in Australian on a humanitarian visa with her family from Egypt. In Egypt she worked for a refugee organisation where she held various roles over 5 years. When she was 14 years old she worked as a youth volunteer for the organisation and then moved into an interpreter role for two years and then was a social worker for 2 years. In Australia Najat worked as a volunteer for Save the Children and with Food Bank where she got local experience. She joined Youth Employment Program (YEP) starting her 12 month traineeship with the North Richmond Community Capacity Building Initiative (NRCCBI) as an admin support officer where she was able to learn about the public sector and developed skills and experience she held this role for 10 months and then moved to the Fitzroy housing office for three months where she was able to learn about housing and work with renters and provide the best service she could based on her experience. She is now working for Child Protection as an Administration Support Officer.
